AWN with financial collaboration of WomenKind conducted a three days workshop on “Legal rights for women in Jail”. This workshop was conducted for awareness of women’s rights, child rights, human rights in a civil society and women’s rights in Islam. The target group of the workshop was the women that are in Jail.

This workshop took place in Stalif High School of Stalif district of Kabul province. A total of (52) people of the school teachers and admin staff attended the workshop. At the beginning, t Mawlawi Namatullah, one of the teachers recited a few verses of the holly Quran. Afterwards, participants introduced them selves to each others and then. Sayed Hamed Hashemi, the program coordinator at ASC, opened the workshop. He introduced Afghanistan Study Centre (ASC) and talked about its background briefly and explained the aims of the workshops and its necessity. More ever, he talked on Human Rights violations occurred through 25 years war in Afghanistan and its negative effects on the society. He asked the participants to follow the topic and respect the human rights as well.

Then, Shamsulhaq Shams, Master Trainer at ASC, explained the Human Rights Convention’s related articles .At the end of his speech he mentioned that with the practice of the Human Rights principles, the current problems can be solved .

He, also, answered the questions asked by the participants.

Afghanistan Study Center (ASC) arranged a three-day workshop in Qalai-e-Qeeyam High School, located in Maidan Wardak, the southern province about the human rights in which forty-eight teachers participated. The workshop was inaugurated by the recitation of the verses of the holy Quran by Qari Noor Agha and was formally started by the speech of Abdul Razaq, the principle of Qalai-e-Qeeyam High School; afterwards he talked in detailed about the topic and mentioned that these kinds of workshops are very important to be arranged. Then Qazi Abdul Rehman, master trainer of ASC, explained the human rights from Islamic point of view. He said that Islam is a civilized religion; all humans are brothers and sisters, so they should have mercy on each other. Then the participants asked some questions about the topic which were responded by Qazi Abdul Rahman.

U.S.: Systemic Abuse of Afghan Prisoners

(London, May 13, 2004) – Mistreatment of prisoners by U.S. military and intelligence personnel in Afghanistan is a systemic problem and not limited to a few isolated cases, Human Rights Watch said today.

Human Rights Watch called on the United States to immediately release the results of past investigations into misconduct by U.S. personnel in Afghanistan, including information about two Afghan detainees who were killed in U.S. custody in December 2002 and another detainee who died in June 2003.
