Intreview with Ms Julia Matthews

Ms Julia Matthews is a Senior Coordinator of Reproductive Health Project in Women’s Commission for Refugees and Children. She is currently working on the project of HIV / AIDS prevention and Control.

AWN recently conducted an interview with her about the current training on HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control that was implemented in May, 2005, Peshawar by AWN.

Giving a brief introduction about Women’s Commission she said; The Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children founded in 1989 is an independent affiliate of the International Rescue Committee. The Commission works for protection of refugee and displaced women, children and adolescents, encourage their participation ensures their access to education, health services and livelihood opportunities

She said that our 4th training of HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control was conducted in June, 2004 in Islamabad.

What was the purpose and objective of the Training?

AWN’s 5th Workshop on Youth Political Awareness

AWN with colloboration and financial support of WK conducted a two days workshop on political awareness of youth in Kabul on 30-31-Jan-2005 in NCB meeting hall at Kabul. More than 20 participants including individuals and participants from various member NGOs took active participation in the workshop.

Project Justification:

A unique aspect of AWN is AWN’s Advocacy and awareness program. AWN currently trains women in different fields in Kabul, Jalalabad and in Peshawar- Pakistan. This project is especially designed for youth to educate them about political issues. Youth are the important part of our society that has been ignored since last years.

Afghan Girls High School’s Teachers and Senior Students Graduation from APDA’s Computer Courses

On 2/10/04 Computer courses graduation ceremony was held in APDA conference room. Thirty female and male trainees have got their graduation certificates of computer software programs. Among the graduates teachers and students of Kabul girlsh schools were dominated, this was the third graduation ceremony which took place in APDA.

In the certificate distribution ceremony Mr. Raz Mohammad Dalili Director of SDF, Miss Roshan Sirran Director of THRA and Mr. Sarwar Mamound Coordinator of APDA have talked about the role of well qualified Afghans in the future of Afghanistan and called on trainees to actively use the gained knowledge and practice for the Afghanistan reconstruction.

Computer Training Course

On of the aim of Afghan Peace and Democracy Act (APDA) is to build the capacity of members and other NGOs working for peace and democracy in our beloved country Afghanistan. APDA launch second term of computer training for increasing the capacity of member and non member NGOs in computer skill. These trainings have been started from March 15, 2004.In these trainings twenty four employees of different NGOs are under training.

These young Afghans lived odd jobs in the streets of Kabul – to wash cars, to recover wood and paper, to beg. Collected by the Aschiana organization, these boys and girls attend from now on the school and rub with the maths, learn to write, learn repairing of bicycles. While speaking with sincerity about their happiness to learn, they tame the glance of the camera.
